Les Framboises d'Automne

Look what I found at the farm market today!

What a wonderful surprise — a taste of summer, amidst the rows of pumpkins and mounds of squash. I'm not sure what I will do with them, but I've got to do something soon —— or freeze them for a reminder of the market come dead of winter.

I would never have imagined delicate raspberries could survive a cold fall in Wisconsin.

I bought them from the Vangs, along with apples, carrots and string beans. The Vangs always toss in an extra onion, or some cucumbers or zucchini. Today, they gave me one small snowy white cauliflower. I will make a salad with it, adding cheese, onions and a small amount of bacon. Nice people. I will miss them over the winter months.

One of my friends in WA picked a second growing of berries....I did not think that was possible, but there they were. Fresh yogurt and berries.......yum!

That's a good idea! Easy, too.

The Vangs told me it happens, that second crop, but I'd never heard of it before. Amazing!

What a lovely post. I loved seeing the picture of the Vangs - I think it's important to know and appreciate the effort that is involved in bring us our food. Especially a treat like a second crop of raspberries!

Yes, it was such an unexpected treat to find raspberries in mid-October. I keep thinking how we've got to appreciate these small gifts because then we will never be without happiness and joy in our lives.

Freezing some of them is what I did, too.

The Vangs make me think of the word lagniappe — something extra. Such kind people!

Mahek, I will try it as soon as I have some free time — can't wait! But it's not happening for me just now — darn!. This weekend I have a wedding to go to, things to work on for the class I teach and I am playing — how appropriate — a "kitchen witch" at a local haunted house to raise money for the historical museum. If I'm not too ugly, I will post pix.
