I've recently added some new links to the left of this post and I wanted to explain them. Some are what I call "big-league" blogs. They've been online for a while and they draw huge followings. Some were recently nominated for Best of Blog Awards and very rightly so. They are good. The writing is top notch and outside-the-proverbial box. The photographs are delectable. The combine forms and colors and light and shadow in such delightful ways. Where does all this talent come from?
Some of the bloggers appear to be nice people to boot. Some support the whole notion of blogging about food in so many ways. Others encourage new bloggers. Some have become people I can turn to for support and answers to questions I am usually embarrassed to ask.
Some are fairly new, like this blog. Others are really new.
Some are strictly food blogs. Perhaps they might be called recipe blogs.
Others talk about non-food matters, like home and family.
Some are French or Parisian blogs, and I visit them to get information or to bring my upcoming trip a little closer.
Anyway, there is no real rhyme or reason to why these blogs are linked here, except that in some cases I liked the blogs and the bloggers and I want to be as supportive as a number of you were to me last summer when I was trying to figure this whole thing out. I still am. You still are. Thank you.
And the photo? Well, it has nothing to do with links except that it struck me as "food porn."
By the way, special thanks to the kind spirit behind Food Porn Watch.

Oh Mimi, you food porn is a riot-where have I seen that thing???Hummm. I feel pretty much the same way, as I am sure most of us do about our links. I deviate from food blogs occassionally because I know there is so much out there that is worth reading and what an opportunity to come in contact with wonderful people!I write about food and travel, enjoy reading those posts in particular, but, it can't stop there! It is all a Disneyland for me!The more, the merrier!
I'm pretty much an eclectic blogger...food blogs, family blogs, farm blogs, chicken blogs...I've pretty much got them covered. I love making new friends, and look forward to my sometimes daily visits to friends from around the world. I LOVE BLOGGING! And I love your blog, Mimi. It's like I found an old friend!
The only place that obscene carrot has appeared is my kitchen, Jann.
I was almost embarrassed to post that photo.
Cyn, this is indeed a fun hobby — it's the natural culmination of my publications career and my love for Macintosh computers.
Mimi, again this blogging thing is an ever expanding experience. I can't believe I can enjoy it so much except I do understand that it's really about the people. I especially enjoy the mix on your blog.
Tanna, I totally agree. I think the give and take is the best part of it. I'm in it for the fun and the learning and I try not to take it all too seriously.
Still, I want to have a quality blog because it's another form of publication.
Food porn indeed! Thanks for linking to so many interesting blogs. Several are new to me, and I'm looking forward to exploring them.
That looks like a hermaphrodite carrot to me!
Pretty soon I will need a separate blog just for links. So many talented and interesting people out there.
I'm thinking of better ways to organize the links, though.
Mimi--Thanks for adding my blog to your list. I've of course reciprocated, as you know. Thanks for this lovely post too [the lascivious carrot notwithstanding]. You know, the camaraderie and generous spirit found on food blogs may not be unique, but it's certainly rare. A friend of mine recently started a work-related blog and the level of sharing and friendly exchange is nothing like what we experience every day. Maybe it comes from the basic generosity and joy in the act of feeding others.
Your blog is really coming along! I have actually started a third one (just what I needed!) but havent revealed it yet. It is pretty much a blank page. Thanks for all your comments, I think we are on the same wavelength as far as French food is concerned, just in two different places!
I love the sexy carrot ;)
I'm new to blogging, and even though I don't do it myself I have visited quite a few in recent months and am very impressed. They are great invention and a wonderful medium for making new friends, sharing lifes experiences and discussing topics of interest, in this case food ! Something we all enjoy on a daily basis.
Paris is not far away now Mimi :)
Terry B, you are on to something and that is exactly why my blog will always be more than recipes. It's more than the mechanics of preparing something. It is the sharing. The conversation. Eating is more than what's on the plate.
I agree, BC, and I've been following the conversation (as you can see) about Picards at Cuisine Quotodienne. French people get busy, too. I agree wholeheartedly. Can't wait to see you new addition.
Fiona, your Web site may not be blog, but it is exquisite. Yes, Paris is not far away at all. Just a couple of months.
That carrot has issues!
It's amazing how many well-written, interesting food blogs are out there, and I also am amazed at the level of photography on many blogs. I see a jaw-dropping photo on some food blog almost every day.
I also agree with everyone about the feeling of community there is among food bloggers. It really does seem warm, open, and inclusive. And having all these online friends and acquaintances definitely makes my world a larger, better place.
Jaw-dropping really says it all. Somewhere, oh I forget where, I saw something encrusted in pistachios that just blew me away.
Let's do what we can to keep that feeling of community. It's so much less energy sapping to be positive and inclusive.
I am in total agreement with the community and connecting with others through blogging. I am one of the really newbies and I'm afraid am enjoying it so much that I am feeling "guilty" about it.
And, I am most grateful to fall under your listings. Thank you! Keep up the great work, Mimi!
Stick with us, F2B — there is lots of fun to follow.
In spring, French Kitchen in America will become, for two weeks, Americans in a Paris Kitchen. Watch for it!
