Paris, je t'aime

When it's winter in my world, I remember a certain spring day in Paris.
The ache I feel for the beauty of Paris is palpable.
There is beauty everywhere, in the elaborate and in the simple.
The simple act of serving dessert is performed beautifully.

Ah, Paris! Will you be my Valentine?

Oh, Mimi - I might have to stop reading your blog. I get such a yearning for Paris that I just can't stand it. I have to jump on the plane to CDG airport right now!

You do make one yearn for Paris, Mimi!
It's been so cold and rainy here for the past week. January was mild and sunny while the rest of the nation had ice and snow storms. Now we're getting hammered. I'd take the setting of any of those photos right now!

LT4, your time will come! I know the feeling. It surges in me every so often, maybe once a week or so.

Christine, our January was dreadful. Snow, thaw, freeze, ice, snow, thaw, freeze. We have lost half our snow cover now. Sorry about your storms, Christine. I yearn for Paris, too.

Speaking of yearning for Paris....
My whole internal system, body and soul, craves for a serious therapeutic dose of Paris right now.
On this Saint Valentin's eve I cannot help but thinking about all the beautiful things we ate during the intimate reception we gave to our family and friends in our tiny apartment after my Wisconsin-born wife and I got married at the city hall of the 6th arrondissement in Paris, 40 years ago. At that time we lived on the 5th floor (no elevator)of an old 17th century building Rue de Seine owned by Isadora Duncan's brother. And, even though we were not wealthy, we had ordered beautiful Hors d"oeuvre and "petits fours" from the, at that time most famous, Parisian caterer Potel & Chabot. In 2009 we are still laughing just thinking about the faces of the poor uniformed guys delivering the goods from that most "snobish" establishment after climbing for 5 minutes in a poorly lit and decrepit staircase and knocking at our door. I'm sure they never had to deliver such delicacies to such an unexpected non-fancy place.
Besides I was always running out of champagne and had to send one of my brothers down and up these stairs to buy some more at the grocery store in front of our bulding.
Great memories.
Happy Valentine's Day everybody.

Alain, you have the best stories to share.

I know the feeling you have for Paris, but I am certain it is more intense for you. I cannot imagine how you must miss Paris. I could use some Paris tonight, right now, myself.

BTW. I saw petites fours at the market tonight...

Right about now, Mimi, I'd be happy to be just about anywhere it was spring! Winter is back with a vengeance......tho my latest seed catalog is recommending I plant lettuce, kale, and other hardy greens 4 weeks before the last predicted frost date. Round these parts, that's some time in May! So...the seeds COULD go in mid April? Mmmmm baby arugula, here I come!

I feel the same way, Cyn.

We have been getting flurries all morning up here.

But spring is in the air. The mourning doves are singing already and so are the finches. Some years it warms up faster up north.
