Summer Change

Finally it is summer after a long winter and a rainy spring.

I bought fresh garlic at the farm market today and will do something Mediterranean this long weekend. I bought fresh basil, too, and fresh mozzarella.

Insalata Caprese. Salad in the style of Capri.

As a teenager, I dreamed of spending my honeymoon in Capri. It was a jigsaw puzzle named "Marina Grande Capri" that fired my imagination as a child: Colorful buildings with arched balconies, low boats, azure sky and water. My father worked jigsaw puzzles during stressful times, and this was my favorite.

I bought a fresh bottle of olive oil and the best tomatoes I could find. There is no salad that tastes of summer as this one does. My metabolism no longer permits me to consume vast quantities of potato salad on long summer weekends.

This is only one of many changes in my life and yours since I began this blog six years ago in June. Its anniversary quietly came and went while life was occupying me.

Coasting along is no longer good enough. Change is coming. I just haven't figured it all out yet.

Good to hear from you again, Mimi. Yeah...the carbs weigh heavy on me, too. Even worse now that I cannot exercise like I once did. Sheesh....to be young again. (but know what I know now!)

Amen to that, Cyn. Once again we are on the same wavelength.

Hello, Jann, and Happy Fourth of July to you. Thank goodness is really is summer finally here in the Upper Midwest. Our winter lasted well into April and our spring just ended five days ago. Really!

My goal is to do slowly get back into blogging this summer. We'll see where and how it goes...

Sometimes, you just can't plan change. I think often about what I want to do, what I intend to do (vis a vis blogging and life in general), but I've learned to allow the distractions in, and to be willing to follow different paths. I hope your path leads to blogging from time to time, so we can enjoy seeing the world through your eyes. And no potato salad for me, either.

When I first started blogging I could not imagine a time when I would not want to do it. It is such a creative outlet. But I have hit stumbling blocks along the way that made me realize that even a good thing can wear thin and sometimes I just don't have the enthusiasm or words to keep going. I am glad that you are finding your way back.

Thank you Lydia and Penny, for your words as well as for not forgetting me.

I am seeking a renaissance, I guess.

Love the new blog layout and all the yummy breads and pastries! We're glad you're back with us - I have been thinking about some changes too - it's just getting motivated to do the things I want and need to do. Happy 4th!

Thanks, Trish.

Changes can be fun. We coast along for a bit and then pft! We need change!

As others have noted, it's hard to stick with one thing year in and year out while life continues forward and often throws a curve ball which interrupts our lives, makes us view life differently, re-set our priorities, sometimes makes us crazy. Back in March, enough of the above gathered into a perfect storm and I simply quit posting. I felt bad about it for a while then quit thinking about it. Sometimes we just have to give ourselves space to sort these things out.
I'm glad you're back, Mimi. I hope to be back soon, too.
Happy 6th blog anniversary. You, me, Kalyn and a handful of others are 6-year bloggers, in this together.

Thank you, Christine. Good to hear from you. I have wondered how you were, and missed you, too.

Things have improved mightily here, although my professional life is busy.

I'm learning to make more time for myself now.
