Kitchen Tools

In My Kitchen

My kitchen is a mix of old and new, from top to bottom. It's not fancy. But with good kitchen tools, I can create great meals:

  • Copper Bowls from E. Dehilleran, ParisA trip to Paris' legendary kitchen supply store. Don't let the taciturn staff scare you. This shop is a treasure trove of classic chef's tools and more.
  • Egg Timer: There's nothing like this classic hourglass style to help cook an egg to your tastes. Mine has been with me a long time.
  • Mortar and Pestle: Essential but in this case, also very heavy. But it's great for all sorts of kitchen chores.
  • Pie Crimper: Why I cherish my grandmother's pie crimper. Now if my pies turned out like hers - or my father's.
  • Rapé Tout: Discovered at a shop in Cahors, this little dish is really a grater.
  • Whips from E. Dehilleran: A ball whisk makes a huge difference in the kitchen. It looks different, but it works like a charm.
It's easy to clean old wooden salt shakers and pepper mills.
